for many players, games such as call of duty: warzone and counter strike: global offensive are some of the most popular multiplayer games to play, making it a perfect candidate for wall hacking. however, wall hacks are far from new, in fact, back in the early 2000s it was possible to wall hack counter strike in the form of vac, which was eventually retired as newer anti-cheat systems like punkbuster and warden were rolled out.
having spent time playing these games, it should come as no surprise that i had noticed the problem from the beginning. in fact, i remember back when i first started playing these games there was a bug in cs:go that allowed players to see through walls. so i took to the web to find out more and tried to replicate the effect myself. after some trial and error, i was able to get the same effect on a much larger scale. my findings were posted on a forum for cs:go players on reddit, and quickly the community was drawn into the madness. as people began posting videos on their experiences with wall hacking the sub-reddit soon became a hub for wallhack discussion and sharing. soon, wallhacking became a big topic of discussion, and it wasn’t long before more experienced players began warning others of the risks associated with using this type of cheat.
while there are other types of cheats and exploits that take advantage of certain bugs in games, wall hacking takes place when a player is able to look through a transparent wall, allowing them to see the enemy hiding behind it. in many cases, you don’t even have to know that a player is hiding behind the wall to wallhack. wall hacking simply allows you to see that the player is there, and then can be used to launch an ambush on the player.
players sometimes use wallhack cheats on a constant basis. this causes a lot of problems for both players and server. the reason why is because players can no longer detect other players on the server. this results in a very unstable game where players constantly misalign, sometimes even to the point where theyre stuck next to each other. a server automatically adjusts gameplay based on the amount of players on the server, so when wallhack cheats are used, it will often alter the gameplay to be very boring or to simply make the game unplayable.
a rarer exploit is a wallhack that is able to bypass blackmirror and target gpu directly. this prevents blackmirror from ever working and so wallhack cheats are not used on this server. even so, there are still ways to wallhack even with an enclave.
a more rare exploit is the ability to render a player from behind a wall. this can also happen when the player is dead because the same thing happens as with the alive player, but since the player is dead, theyre no longer sending visibility information to gpu. this is easily the most common way for an attacker to make a wallhack work.
there are many ways to make a wallhack work. the most common is to just use a plugin to sniff out the existence of an enemy player. another way is to exploit a known vulnerability and render a player from behind a wall. there are many exploit techniques for wallhacking in general. wallhacks are made possible because a players rendering pipeline is vulnerable, and they have the ability to bypass their security measures.
blackmirror is a custom plugin written by the community, and is the only wallhack plugin available in the plugin store. it is built specifically for single-player and multiplayer games. in single-player games, blackmirror is able to block the invisible player from being rendered to gpu, preventing wallhacks from working in single-player. in multiplayer, blackmirror can prevent players from being rendered from behind a wall by using the enclave, which prevents wallhacks from ever working.
