Badmaash Company 1080p
i first had the idea for badmaash on a rainy day in february 2005. i was with my college friend, who lives in calcutta. we were having lunch in a vegetarian restaurant on a “first name” basis. he had the idea to steal a lock of shatrughan sinha’s hair from koi mil gaya. he was a new comer to the city and had no contacts. i, on the other hand, had the contacts, but no ideas. he called me up in the evening to tell me about his idea. i went and took some pictures of a handsome young man with blonde hair on a street with lots of bicycles. we decided to name him “badmaash” after the street. i borrowed my friend’s camera and took the pictures. by the time i got back to his house, i had an idea, which was to make a film on “mr. badmaash”. i suggested that i write a story and screenplay on him, and he should appear as the main character.
i wrote the story and screenplay in a week’s time with help from my wife. i have to confess that my wife helped too much! she read all my work and pointed out the flaws, which made the story fit into the film. my crew, which included my daughter and her friend, helped me on camera. the interesting thing about badmaash is that it has six episodes, each containing a full fledged story. when i was writing the screenplay and story, i envisaged that these episodes would make two films. i planned badmaash as being about three young people who rob a bank and get rich. i had started writing that screenplay, but the ideas were different. they changed and morphed into my taare zameen par ideas. after my team dropped me, i decided that i could not make another film that was out of the box. i decided to write about four people in one. moreover, each of the four characters has a monologue in the film. it is like a radio serial in which all the characters speak. the film also has many layers. if you pick it apart, you will see that it contains numerous meanings. i decided to make my film on the theme of “conscience”.

talking about badmaash company means talking about the pre-liberalized india of the 1990s – cheap, and with brands that are difficult to come by. from fortuner, simca, even lancer, to the likes of sneaker manufacturers otb, puma, sgs, reebok, reebok, reebok and reebok, the film reveals a reality of india that’s been largely ignored.
the film opens with the four friends waiting to take a train from bombay to hyderabad. the scene is designed to show that they’re all adults, who have no qualms about taking trains because that’s how they make big bucks. they’re on their way to attend a formal party where all kinds of fashion brands — denim, accessories and shoes — will be showcased. the four friends will get jobs afterwards.
shah rukh khan is the best part of the film, injecting the usual energy and zest into every scene of the film, and making it seem like a joyride. apart from acting, the actor has made a mark by never letting himself down. from his debut in rajneeti to this, he’s showcased that he’s a multitalented actor and one can never have enough of him.
adi chopra has a hand in all aspects of a film’s production, be it scripting, directing, producing or even co-producing, and badmaash company follows him around. he’s the guiding star. he clearly knew what he wanted in badmaash company, his first film as director, and he seems to have put his heart and soul into it, even giving it a punjabi theme, something seldom seen in hindi cinema. the movie begins with a song that is set in the northern indian border state of punjab, among the cows.
